Information We Collect and Why
To provide sign-in, favorites, and paid membership features, we collect and store the following.
Information obtained from your Google account
When you sign in with Google, we receive:
- Email address
- Display name
- Profile image URL
- Google's internal user ID
- OAuth tokens (used to re-authenticate with Google)
We do not request access to any other Google scopes (Gmail, Google Drive, Contacts, etc.).
Information stored automatically as you use the site
- Session ID (to keep you signed in)
- IP address and user agent (used to detect session hijacking)
- Slugs of articles you have favorited
- Per-article view counts (aggregate totals; not linked to your user ID)
Information related to paid membership
If you subscribe to a paid membership, we store:
- Stripe customer ID (Stripe's identifier for you)
- Subscription status (active, canceled, etc.)
- Next renewal date
We never store credit card numbers, expiration dates, CVC codes, or any other payment credentials. All payment data is handled by Stripe in their PCI DSS-compliant environment.
How We Use This Information
The information we collect is used only for:
- Maintaining your sign-in state and authenticating you
- Providing the favorites feature
- Determining whether you are a paying member (for delivering members-only articles)
- Detecting unauthorized access and account takeover
- Replying to inquiries you send us
Disclosure to Third Parties
We do not disclose or share personal information with third parties except in the following cases:
- When you have given consent
- When required to comply with legal requests
- When outsourcing processing as needed to provide the service (see "Service Providers" below)

Cookies
This site uses cookies for the following purposes:
- Maintaining your sign-in session (
better-auth.session_tokenand related) - Saving your dark mode preference (
theme) - Suppressing duplicate view counts for already-read articles (sessionStorage)
You can disable cookies in your browser, but the sign-in feature will no longer work. As of May 2026, we do not use any cookies for analytics or advertising.
Account Deletion
Once signed in, you can permanently delete all data the site holds about you from the /en/account page by selecting "Delete account". This removes:
- Your user record (email, display name, etc.)
- Sessions and linked authentication accounts
- Favorites
- Membership data
If you have an active Stripe subscription, it is automatically canceled as part of the deletion (your past billing history remains on Stripe's side).
Disclosure, Correction, and Suspension Requests
For requests that the automatic deletion above does not cover (disclosure, correction, suspension of use, etc.), please contact us at the address above. We will respond promptly after verifying your identity.
